@afghancycles won AUDIENCE CHOICE this weekend at @tasveerseattle!! I can't tell you what it means to hear that your film has resonated with viewers, and that's a testament to the women profiled in Afghan Cycles. So to each of you brave enough to share your story, thank you for trusting us and for letting us into your lives for the past 5 years. Your passion and courage is inspiring audiences everywhere, and this award is proof of that. Frozan, Mariam, Zahra, Zakia, Nahid, Masoma, Nazifa, Tahira - This is for all of you!
Another successful weekend for the #festivalblazer - huge thanks to @tasveerseattle for a great screening yesterday! After all the support you’ve shown me and this film over the years, it was an honor to finally share @afghancycles with the South Asian Film Festival here in Seattle. Next up: Bellingham on Saturday for Doctober, can’t wait!
Like many, I’m moving through the world with a heavy heart today as I process and reconcile the plight for women in our country right now. Women’s voices need to be heard, and they need to be trusted. I couldn’t think of a better place to go today as I work through everything swirling in my head, than the @womensportsfilm festival in San Francisco. I feel honored to be able to amplify the voices of courageous women both in Afghanistan (@afghancycles) and here in the States (@themirnavator). This weekend, I will fight my every urge to curl up in bed and sob, and will instead celebrate all the brave women I know, feeling grateful to have them in my life inspiring me every single day.
